The American Association of Blood Banks

TORONTO, Aug. 8 1996 /CNW/ - LifeTECH (CDN-LFTK), a biotechnology
company with proprietary sterilization technology for blood and
blood products, announced today that the American Association of
Blood Banks (AABB) has accepted an abstract by LifeTECH scientists
for presentation at the AABB's 49th Annual Meeting in Orlando,
Florida from October 12-16, 1996.

The LifeTECH scientists will present data relating to the
protection of platelets during sterilization by LifeTECH's
Sterizone(TM) System. The abstract is entitled "In Vitro
Protection Of Platelets From Free Radicals Produced After Ozone
(O(3)) Treatment" (Abstract No. 1150). The authors of the abstract
are LifeTECH's Greg Cavanagh, Jane Yamada, Dave Klein, Walter

Dr. Ken Money, Chairman of LifeTECH's Scientific Advisory Board,
stated: "Viral and bacterial contamination of platelets used for
human transfusions can cause serious illness and fatalities. The
ability of the Sterizone System to sterilize platelets will be an
important step towards LifeTECH's goal of a safe global blood
supply."

The American Association of Blood Banks is the international
scientific association devoted to blood banking and blood
transfusion services. AABB members are responsible for collecting
and transfusing most of the U.S. blood supply. The 2,400
