The Cuban news agency Prensa Latina said Ortega was receiving a treatment called ozone therapy to purify the blood. It did not say how long he would be staying. The leftist ex-president, a friend of President Fidel Castro, stayed in Havana for several months' treatment after a check-up in the Cuban capital in November 1994 and revealed he had suffered a "silent" heart attack about three months previously.
